Supportive Living

Supporting your recovery, independence, and wellbeing
— one step at a time

What Is Supportive Living?

NewStep’s supportive living model is designed to bridge the critical gap between hospital discharge and long-term community stability. Our homes provide a dignified, community-based alternative to traditional institutional facilities—offering adults a safe, supportive, and empowering place to regain independence at their own pace.

We focus on holistic support: residents receive individualized assistance with daily living, emotional wellness, and physical health needs while still maintaining autonomy and choice in their everyday routines. Each home is intentionally structured to feel like a real family residence—warm, comfortable, and inclusive—so individuals recovering from medical challenges can heal without the stress of a clinical environment.

Whether someone is transitioning from hospital care back to their own home, stabilizing after a difficult life event, or preparing for entry into longer-term supportive living, NewStep provides the consistent guidance, community connection, and practical support required for lasting recovery. Our goal is simple: to help every resident rebuild confidence, strengthen daily-living skills, and thrive in a stable community setting that feels like home.

What Is NewStep Supported Living?

NewStep Supported Living provides safe, furnished, community-based homes for adults who are not yet ready to return home independently after illness, surgery, or hospitalization.

Our homes offer compassionate care, stability, and structure in a residential setting—bridging the gap between hospital discharge, home care, and long-term care placement.

Each resident receives a personalized care plan built around their physical, emotional, and social needs, with support delivered by trained caregivers and coordinated with healthcare teams.

Who Is This Program For?

NewStep Supported Living is for adults who:

  • Need temporary or ongoing support to live safely in the community
  • Are transitioning from hospital care, rehabilitation, or surgery
  • Are waiting for long-term care placement or supportive housing
  • Require a stable environment before returning home
  • Cannot live safely alone due to health, mobility, or recovery needs
  • Need daily assistance such as personal care, meal support, or supervision

Residents must:

  • Be able to live respectfully with others in a shared residential setting
  • Manage finances independently or have a designated decision-maker
  • Follow house guidelines to maintain a safe and stable environment

We also accept self-funded and privately referred clients, including those supported by families, physicians, hospital discharge planners, or community health centres, Indigenous services, social workers, case managers, and healthcare professionals.
